Happiness is a choice. Choose to be happy.
Contemplating whether it's right for me to take up tuition. The way my MYCT results will turn out will make you wonder if I'm the guy who scored 10 points just barely a year ago. Really disappointed in myself this time round. That motivation to do well, it is there but it isn't doing its thing.
I always wonder, what's behind all that we are doing right now. Grades? Sure, grades do mean practically everything in our society. But does society solely value academic excellence? Just the pursuit of academic excellence has already caused a divergence within the student body itself. You have closet muggers, arrogant and stuck-up ones, those who try so hard just to get a pass, and some who don't make it despite tons of effort put in. And not forgetting that there are those who waste their time away online & yet still get good grades. I've always wondered how this group of people actually get such good grades.
The education system in Singapore promotes meritocracy. By that I mean academic excellence. People are so set on becoming the first in their studies that they actually forgo friendships. Is it even worth it? Being overly competitive and highly self-centered has resulted in closet muggers. They don't openly tell you they study. They never do. They tell you they don't study like how the slackers do, and then they go home and start mugging.
And I really pity those who work their asses off just to get a decent grade for their exams. Too bad society doesn't grade your amount of hard work as well. Wouldn't it be cool to have a grading system for hard work and effort put in as well?
- To think that math actually caused me to wonder, why do we study stuff that probably won't help us in any way when we grow up? This happened during transformation of curves lecture. Random, but makes a lot sense. To the point that I actually gave up on my Math for MYCT. |
