title : Boulderactive 2013

And the moment I heard my ankle 'crack', I knew it wasn't a normal sprain that would recover in minutes. The usual sprains I got were all minor ones. A few minutes after the sprain and the ankle is as good as before. But not this time.

Boulderactive 2013 on Friday was my first competition. I enjoyed it no doubt, but I certainly didn't expect it to end with an injury. I attempted all the routes before returning to boulder problem 3 because it was the only boulder that I came the closest to grabbing the bonus tile. I was able to grab it on my 2nd/3rd attempt but I swung out. When I returned to try it once again afterwards, I was able to grab it, but my left hand couldn't hold on, and I fell. And rolled my ankle. And I could hear the 'crack' from my standing position. Imagine how loud it was. Oh, and don't forget the noisy environment I was in. With 8 mins left on the clock, I had to stop climbing because of my ankle. Initially, I had wanted to return to the wall after telling the officials that I was okay, but I couldn't. The pain became rather unbearable and I had to sit out the rest of the competition. Was still recovering from the shock even after the time for my detail (group) was up.

After watching the replays, I can't deny the fact that I am disappointed. Disappointed because I could not do a side step properly. Disappointed because I could not execute any moves properly. Disappointed because of my injury. Disappointed, but a learning experience nonetheless.

I prayed and hoped for a safe climb, but it didn't happen.

I will recover from this injury, and come back stronger.
